- Hi! I've been monitoring this newsgroup for about a month now, but I didn't
- learn how to post until last night. SO here goes...
-
- I was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma in June 1988. I underwent 4 rounds of
- chemo (cisplatin and adriamyacin). I had limb salvage surgery on my left
- humerous. After the surgery I had an additional 2 rounds of chemo. In Sept.
- 1989 I had a recurrence in my lung. I had a thoracotomy (sp?) to remove the
- nodule. Following this I had ten rounds of chemo (Iphosphomide and VP-16).
- My body didn't handle the chemo well at all. Every month I was in the
- hospital with infections. I took daily shots of GMC-SF to stimulate white
- cell growth. I can't count the number of transfusions I had. After 10 rounds
- of chemo my doctors decided I couldn't handle any more. I went to MD Anderson
- for an experimental immunotherapy treatment called MTP-PE even though I was
- clean. I continued getting MTP-PE back at home in Washington, DC. I'm now a
- sophomore in college and have been clean since the nodule was removed in '89.
- I just had my last bone scan over winter break (it was fine, knock on wood)
- and I'll probably have my last CT scan ever in the summer.
-
- I haven't met anyone my age who's had osteosarcoma--everyone I've come in
- contact with has seemed a lot younger. I'm curious to know if there are any
- cancer surviviors on this group who are about my age. It's weird but at times
- I've felt like I "knew" so much more about life than a lot of my friends did.
- A lot of their actions seem so childish. I'd like to hear about others'
- experiences with situations like these. Thanks
-
