- Hi. I am writing here on behalf of my mother who was diagnnosed with acute
- breast cancer about twenty years ago. Since then, she has been treated
- successfully with surgery and radiation therapy. It has been recurring in
- the bone in her spine and her hip, but with combinations of surgery and
- radiation we seem to get it to remiss. Recently she underwent surgery
- and radiation in the third vertebrae after the cancer had deteriorated
- the spine and impacted the nerve cells until she was paralized from her
- neck down. Luckily, since the surgery, she has slowly recovered most of
- her sensation and can stand for short periods.
-
- Anyway, it's back. Since they've radiated the area so much, they can't
- do it any more and are going to put her on chemo. I overheard some people
- talking about a new breast cancer treatment that consisted of an injection
- of a specially radiated chemical that attached itself only to the cancer
- cells. Since her breast cancer cells are treated well with radiation
- it sounded good to me. Her doctors at Stanford tell us that we shouldn't
- try new drugs until there is no other choice.
-
- I am sorry about my ignorance of the proper terminology, etc. I am just
- now getting acquainted with this area as I begin a struggle that I think
- you are all facing. I just feel so useless in ignorant and I don't want
- to miss anything that could help my mother. If anyone has any information
- on new breast cancer treatments, I would appreciate it greatly.
-
- TIA,
-
