  10. A year ago my mother (73) was diagnosed as having chronic
  11. lymphocytic leukaemia.  The standard treatment has not been
  12. successful in controlling the condition and she has become
  13. increasingly sickly.  Recently it was suggested that she start
  14. treatment with a new experimental drug.  She has agreed.  ("I have
  15. nothing to loose.")

  17. The drug is Fludarabine.  Not surprisingly, there are possible side
  18. effects including nausea, vomiting, rashes, greater susceptibility
  19. to infections and, in some cases, damage to vision or hearing.  It
  20. is normal to administer it in conjunction with an oral antibiotic
  21. and Allopurinol.  The latter is prescribed for kidney problems;
  22. whether as a consequence of the illness or the drug I don't know.

  24. I gather that so far it has been given to about 2000 people in the
  25. US and about 20 in the UK with promising results.  Has anyone on
  26. the net had any experience of Fludarabine?  If so I would be
  27. interested to hear your comments.
