  12.     things are going well in the recovering life so far.  interesting
  13. experience for me now is composing those "personal statements" so beloved
  14. by law schools, grad schools, etc.  who is this guy in my statements?  i
  15. want to marry him...and i'm already married (and hetero, besides).  anyway,
  16. seriously folks, it has been a valuable experience to put down on paper the
  17. positive side of recovery.  sure, i've felt it was a positive thing for
  18. quite some time, but writing it down for other, likely non-alcohol/drug
  19. addicts to see -and judge- is an interesting exercise.  how to be humble,
  20. without being self-serving, servile, scraping, egotisitic, etc.?  will
  21. admissions committees just say screw this guy, he won't be in our law
  22. class?  or will i add to the "diversity" and be a valuable addition?  i do
  23. feel even stronger and happier in my sobriety than before by doing this. 
  24. some people recommended against mentioning the recovery in the letter, yet
  25. i felt a need to explain my abysmal grades at William and Mary and other
  26. fine institutions; not to excuse my past actions, but to show how i am a
  27. different person today.  any advice on filling out such self-serving
  28. statements?  good experiences, bad experiences, etc? 
  29.     i just started playing on this newsline and look forward to seeing
  30. meaningful exchanges here, not just the whining of people in need of a big
  31. pity pot.  oh yeah, the treatment center i went to was really big on
  32. codeps...both my roomates over my month-long stay were codeps...it was
  33. great, they would agree to anything!!!
