- Hi everyone,
-
- I own a bc 200xlt handheld scanner and enjoy it very much. I have a few
- questions for those of you in the know regarding scanners that I am sure that
- provide the answers that I so very much would like to have.
-
- 1. I bought my scanner from Grove. They included with it the procedure
- for restoring the cellular freqs. I have not yet done this, and would
- like to know if there is any reason why I SHOULD NOT do this. The paper
- they sent said that I could still recieve the cellular phone calls by
- listening to them between 895-914 Mhz. If this is so, WHY?
-
- 2. I would also like to know what other modifications are available for my
- scaner that would make it *better*. For example, ability to recieve
- 27Mhz CB freqs, faster scan rate, increasing the number of memory
- channels > the current 200, etc, etc.
-
- 3. What antenna upgrade or other items could I find to increase its ability
- to recieve distant/weak signals. I have heard that the Austin Condor
- is a good replacement antenna, but I know not where to find one.
-
- 4. I have a very limited understanding of the 800Mhz band, its use by my
- police department (in addition to the regular vhf freqs), and exactly
- what is meant by a "trunked system". Any information in this area would
- prove very educational.
-
- 5. Do the scanner modification books that I see advertised in Grove's
- catalogue cover the BC 200xlt, and if so, are these books worth buying?
-
- I have many other questions, but I'm sure these will do for now.
- I would appreciate any and all help that the experts that read this group
- could give me. Postings to the net for information that is valuable to
- the majority or readers would be nice, but I would also appreciate direct
- email in answer to my questions, or at least the ones concerning mods
- for my scanner.
-
- email address: dwsst8@unixd.cis.pitt.edu OR
- jetst7@unixd.cis.pitt.edu
-
- I would appreciate responses to the first address especially.
-
- Thanks in advance for all the help you can give me.
