- ]I'd open this question to non-Greens too! Are there any non-Greens
- ]who think outer space resources should be counted on in deciding how
- ]to address the issues Greens address?
-
- Since I'm the one who started the whole thing (I started a thread!:)
- Would my views count? I'm not a Green.
-
- I'd say it needs to be looked into. More specifically, I think the Greens
- should not oppose any efforts (private or otherwise) to reach space unless
- say, someone wants to use an Orion or Nerva rocket system to launch items
- to orbit. My basic view is that the Greens should do what I think the
- government should do with regards to space: get out of the way, please.
-
- ](Let's except earth insolation and "resources" like orbits for
- ]satellites.)

- ]Here's an opinion: resources extracted in outer space will eventually
- ]provide untold riches to all, but they won't be available in time to
- ]get us out of our current jam. Nor will any political system capable
- ]of fairly distributing untold riches to all. To propose solutions to
- ]today's threats-to-human-habitat which require outer space resources
- ]is escapist fantasy, fun but not useful.
-
- Laddie, doon't ye think ye outta.... rephrase that?
-
- Star Trek is escapist fantasy (and *good* escapist fantasy, IMHO) but some
- of the ideas on spaceflight are not. Outer-space resources can not solve all
- the Earth's problems, but I think that finding them offplanet or producing
- goods offplanet instead of mucking up the planet down here would be a bit
- helpful.
