- I've been thinking about this a little bit, and my view is slowly changing.
- Initially, as a moderate homophobe, I said, "Hell, no, keep the queers out
- of the army!" But I've begun to decide that this is sort of a stupid position.
- Performance and CONDUCT should indeed be the key. We can't really very well
- prevent people from joining the military based on what they think; if we look
- at homosexuality as a state of mind (which I continue to prefer to do, rather
- than accepting a genetic argument...), then there is no reason to exclude gays
- BECAUSE they are gay. Behavior is another matter; certain sorts of behavior
- I would have to consider unacceptable by military personnel "on-base" or on
- duty. Frankly, it might not be unreasonable to suggest that ALL sexual
- activity should be included under that umbrella.
