- >=o= There's an interesting item in the December 1992 issue
- >of _Extra!_, a publication of Fairness and Accuracy In Media
- >(FAIR). It notes that "liberal media" mythologizer (my words)
- >Rush Limbaugh's syndicated TV show often resembled an unofficial
- >Republican campaign commercial.
- >
- >=o= "The resemblance may not be coincidental," it says, "the
- >show's executive producer is Roger Ailes, Bush's 1988 campaign
- >handler who quietly advised Bush again in 1992."
-
- So what? If Limbaugh claimed to host a *news* program, FAIR would have a
- point. But he has never claimed to host anything but an entertainment
- program. Perhaps FAIR wants to claim that conservatives shouldn't be allowed
- to broadcast their opinions?
-
- >=o= The latest -- January/February 1993 -- issue of _Extra!_ has
- >an even longer article about Limbaugh, focusing on the unusual
- >combination of his (1) working with Bush campaign officials, (2)
- >spending most of his 22-minutes on the air campaigning for Bush,
- >and (3) not being accountable to the FCC or FEC for this on-air
- >campaign time.
-
- Which only goes to show that the folks at FAIR are either totally ignorant,
- which is implausible, or total demagogues. Are they whining about the "equal
- time" regs? If so, somebody oughta tell them that they applied only to
- *news* shows. And how does the FEC have any jurisdiction over an
- *entertainment* show? Hell's bells, if that's the case, let's turn in
- Saturday Night Live, Arsenio Hall, Whoopie Goldberg, Murphy Brown, and
- ANYthing produced by the Bloodworth-Thomas cast -- all of which shows have
- publicly stumped for the Democrats for years.
-
- >I have no association
- >with this group and have received no compensation in exchange
- >for providing this information.
-
- Just as well... you got what you paid for.
