- =o= There's an interesting item in the December 1992 issue
- of _Extra!_, a publication of Fairness and Accuracy In Media
- (FAIR). It notes that "liberal media" mythologizer (my words)
- Rush Limbaugh's syndicated TV show often resembled an unofficial
- Republican campaign commercial.
-
- =o= "The resemblance may not be coincidental," it says, "the
- show's executive producer is Roger Ailes, Bush's 1988 campaign
- handler who quietly advised Bush again in 1992."
-
- =o= The infamous Clinton-meeting-with-the-KGB-in-Moscow smear
- campaign (found, of course, not to be based in fact), was traced
- by _Village_Voice_ reporter Leslie Savan as travelling
-
- o from Willie Horton ad designer Floyd Brown
- o to Rep. Bob Dornan
- o to Moonie newspaper _The_Washington_Times_
- o to George Bush.
-
- "Limbaugh, Savan pointed out, also played a role" in the smear
- campaign, by "publicly calling on Bush to raise the issue."
-
- =o= There's a strong resemblance between this smear campaign and
- to Ailes' and Brown's 1988 strategy for the Willie Horton ad:
- the smear is released "unofficially" and officially referred to
- with disapproving tones, but as frequently as possible.
-
- =o= The latest -- January/February 1993 -- issue of _Extra!_ has
- an even longer article about Limbaugh, focusing on the unusual
- combination of his (1) working with Bush campaign officials, (2)
- spending most of his 22-minutes on the air campaigning for Bush,
- and (3) not being accountable to the FCC or FEC for this on-air
- campaign time.
