  13. o    "The European Council reiterates the position taken  by  the
  14.      Community  and  its member states in Gimaraes on the request
  15.      of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia  to  be  recog-
  16.      nised  as  an independent state.  It expresses its readiness
  17.      to recognise that republic within its existing  borders,  in
  18.      accordance with the declaration of December 16, 1991 under a
  19.      name which does not include the term  `Macedonia'.  Besides,
  20.      it considers the boundaries of that republic both inviolable
  21.      and guaranteed in accordance  with  the  principles  of  the
  22.      Charter of the United Nations and the Paris Chapter."
