  20. My understanding is that x-screen-defaults doesn't work. I've started
  21. using X resources for everything and have had great results.  Its the
  22. right way to do these things anyway, IMHO.

  24. In my .Xdefaults I define resources for a RIGHTSCREEN a LEFTSCREEN and
  25. a few other screen types that I like.  These include geometry, font
  26. and color combinations.  Then I have keys bound to C-x 5 <key> to
  27. start up a RIGHTSCREEN or LEFTSCREEN or whatever.  Works great.  I
  28. also have default emacs resources to handle my first screen.  So doing
  29. everything through the X resources is fine except:

  31. 1. It seems you have to restart emacs whenever you do an "xrdb -load"
  32.    because lemacs can't re-read the resource database. Jamie, maybe
  33.    you can add a lisp function x-reread-resources???

  35. 2. I can't seem to find a way to specify different initial screens.
  36.    -name switch doesn't seem to work. Maybe there should be a -screen
  37.    switch to specify the screen-name of the initial screen???

  41. If I start up lemacs with "emacs -name foo" I would expect one of the
  42. following things to happen: the initial screen comes up with a screen
  43. name of "foo", or f.identify (from tvtwm) should identify the
  44. Class.res_name as "foo".  None of this happens (note that starting
  45. editres for example with "editres -name foo" does set the
  46. Class.res_name to foo).  So if I have some screen attributes in my
  47. .Xdefaults like "foo*pointerColor: Red", this never takes effect.

  49. Now, I could be doing something wrong, but is anybody else able to
  50. have different initial screens definied in their .Xdefaults, and be
  51. able to use these screens by starting lemacs with -name?
