- The light simply cannot reach our eyes even if we don't believe
- there's anything there. Now metephysical believers can argue
- against this by saying that our "spirit" can look beyond the normal
- laws of physics and hypnosis can help us get deeper into touch with
- our "spirit", but I somehow doubt this is the case. But if these
- stories are true, then there are other senses that we have over
- looked...
-
- I believe that our bodies, our eyes, our body language, our breathing
- patterns, etc. all telegraph a near infinite amount of encoded
- information. Sometime early in life, we learned which of these had
- meanings. Those patterns got programmed in at a very low neurological
- level as a defense mechanism against the onslaught of sensory
- overload.
-
- There are a number of techniques for fine tuning our reception of
- these signals. Some even deal with interpreting past and current
- signals in terms of past or future events. Hence, I find no need to
- invent a new set of senses or even a "spiritual realm" in order to
- understand how someone under hypnosis might be able to see through a
- solid object.
-
- In the cited example, the hypnotist (sic) *was* visible, although the
- object was not. Would the example have been easier to understand if
- we'd known that the hypnotist was chosing from a finite collection of
- objects? Say, a box containing two or three? This would also add
- minute audio cues.
