- 3333 8888 3333 First of all thanks to those guys who replied to my
- 3 8 8 3 question about the 383cid stroker SB.Yeah, I know -
- 333 8888 333 I didn't tell you much details, I wanted to test if
- 3 8 8 3 there are people out on the net who have built such
- 3333 8888 3333 an engine or are interested/experienced in this
- subject. Also I am just in the planning-stage of my
- C I D project, so I don't know too much about it yet -
- I hope we'll can discuss the problems I ferret out.
-
- JIZHONG asked why someone wants to build a 383cid - spending a lot of
- time & effort - instead of using a stock 400 block. That's really a
- good question and it's not too easy to find general answers.
- In my case it's simple : I have a 400 crank, a 350 block & I can get
- cheap 400 rods. There are several way's in getting 383 cid, my plan is
- to use 5.565 rods & .030-over, stock 350cid pistons. This is possible
- cause 350 & 400cid pistons have the same compression-height. I've often
- read about this way to achieve my aim. And here's the first question
- /thing I don't understand. I did the following calculations :
-
-
- CENTER OF CENTER OF CENTER OF PISTON-
- CRANK MAIN- ROD- WRIST-PIN DECK
- JOURNAL JOURNAL
- v v v v
-
- (x) <--- CRANK ---> (x) <--- ROD ---> (x) <--- COMP. ---> I
- STROKE LENGTH HEIGHT
-
-
- 1) For 350 cid :
-
- 3.484 + 5.7 + 1.56 = 10.744
-
- 2) For 383 cid (or 400) :
-
- 3.750 + 5.565 + 1.56 = 10.875
-
-
- As you see I got two different results - this means that the deck
- height of a 350 isn't the same as that of a 383 (or 400). Why ? Where's
- the error ? I always thought the 400 rods compensate the longer stroke
- in such a manner that both 350 & 400 have equal deck-height.
