- Sir: Here is a short prayer to Lord Maha Vishnu, relaxing on Sesha.
- It is remarkable for the numerous other gods that are mentioned in
- it. I do not know the original source but have seen it in Sanskrith
- for a long, long time (from childhood) in a pooja portrait called
- "Anantha Sayanam" in my hometown, Thiru Anantha Puram, (British
- called it Trivandrum). As many netters may be aware, one of the most
- beautiful temples of India, the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple is
- located there. My amma and appa made me recite it as a little boy and
- it has been part of me ever since. So, here goes:
-
- "SREE KRISHNAM, KSHETRA PAALAM, DWAJA BALI SAHITHAM, BHOOTHA NAATHAM,
- NARASIMHAM, VYAASAM, SHAMBHUM, GANESHAM, RAGHUVARAMANUJAM JANAKEEM
- VAYU PUTHRAM, VISHWAKSENAM, SUPARNAM, SURAMUNI, KAMALA, BHOOMI,
- BRAHMAADI SEVYAM, VANDE SHREE PADMANABHAM, PARAMA PADA MAHO,
- PANNAGA BHOGA SHAAYIM"
-
- The commas have been added by me to indicate pauses and to improve
- readability for the first time reader. Also, I am no Sanskrith
- scholar, but I believe the song says, "Salutations Sree Padmanabha,
- the one who is resting on the big snake, one who is
- accompanied and worshipped by Sree Krishna, Kshetra Paal....."
- Shall truly appreciate a more correct translation and knowledge of
- original source of the poem.
-
- Also, the accompanying color portrait is simply beautiful with every
- single one of these divine beings shown in it.
-
- Regards. - ganesh
