- To the best of my knowledge the myth regarding why Brahma is not worshipped
- goes as follows.
-
- One day ( I dont know whether it was human or celestial), Brahma
- and Vishnu went out for a walk. During their walk amongst the clouds they
- came across a large pillar like structure. They both looked up and down
- but they could not find any end to it. They decided to split and try to
- find the end of the pillar. Brahma decide to go downwards and Vishnu went
- up , both agreeing to return to the same spot , if they found something
- , or if they could not find the end, after a certain period of time. They
- both moved off in their respective directions, but the pillar stretched
- endlessly in both directions. As the time to return approached nearer
- Brahma got worried about his reputation with Vishnu. It was then he came
- across a KETEKI flower.( A small yellow flower, I think it is common in
- North India , specifically the HImalayan foothills). He told this flower
- that you come with me and if Vishnu asks, tell him that you were lying
- at the base of the pillar.
- So, both Brahma and the Ketaki flower returned to the starting
- place and were met by Vishnu. Vishnu confessed that he could not find the
- beginning of the pillar. Brahma however said that he had found the base
- and the flower was lying there. Ketaki also said that Brahma's statement
- was true.
- It was then the pillar dissappeared in a blinding flash of light
- and Shiva appeared. He said Brahma, you are lying. and so is this Ketaki.
- "MERA NA KOI AADI HAI NA KOI ANNT" ( I don't have a beginning or an end)
- he then cursed that Brahma would never be worshipped and that the KEtaki
- flower, since he had also lied could never be used in Puja.

- ( Source :: AMAR CHITRA KATHA ) No i dont have any with me now, but this
- one i remember vividly. Incidentally there is a verse in the Bible, which
- says almost the same thing . It goes
- " I am the alpha and the omega ( the first and last letters of greek alpha_
- bet), I am the beginning and the end."
- I think that there is only one temple dedicated to Brahma, which is
- at Pushkar, Rajasthan. Any one know of others
