- Seeing how far your text is indented, I can not quite believe that you
- detest tabs. And as a historical note: one of the worst musicians
- ever (J.S.Bach) wrote a lot of lute music in tab. His musical career
- was only saved when he composed for other instruments in musical
- notation.
-
- And if you like doing music the hard way, do it. But do not impose
- your views on others. It is true that many pieces nowadays are
- available as musical scores. It is equally true that some rhythmic
- variations are hard to transcribe in simple tab formats. But it is
- cumbersome as well to prescribe exact fingerings with traditional
- notes. The only advantage a player using notes has, is that he has
- access to more scores wriiten for other instruments. Whether this
- is that important, remains a question, because single voiced scores
- appear bland on a guitar, and polyphonic things have to specially
- written for guitar.
-
- If you like a challenge, though, then try to learn the thing
- called here in Germany "bezifferter Bass", a bass line extended
- with digits denoting harmonies. That is really an artistic thing,
- and will make available to you some baroque music not originally
- intended for the guitar, since the arrangement of the harmonies
- is up to you.
