- Two that I've seen come to mind. The two books Yamaha puts out 'Sound Reinforce-
- ment Handbook', and the 'Guide to Sound Systems for Worship'. GSSW is directed
- toward church applications, but has the basics covered in less depth than SRH.
- GSSW also adds lots of other things specific to churches - I just include it for
- general info. SRH is written by Gary Davis & someone else (Jones I think.)
-
- SRH is IMO an excellent book. It covers the acoustic and electrical theory appl-
- iccable to Sound Reinforcement in a concise, clear way. The way SRH & GSSW are
- written you really don't need to know the theory to understand the books, but
- of course it will always help you understand things better. I can't remember how
- many pages, but SHR is a little over 1" thick, and about $30 (If I remember
- correctly.) GSSW is a little under 1/2" thick, and something like $20-$25.
-
- Both cover effects as far as setup and connection, maximizing SNR, but don't
- cover much in the area of suggesting "Well on the lead vocal, try using a subtle
- 300ms echo with a fairly dense, but short plate reverb and some chorus." To be
- fair, these subjects are best left to volumes dedicated to Effects and Signal
- processing. SRH does cover the basic workings of Signal processing and Effects.
-
- For SP and FX, I suggest the book series Home & Studio Recording puts out:
- Creative Recording (or something like that). I think these are written by Paul
- White. There are three in this series: Signal Processing, Effects, and Acoustics.
- All three run about $45. I've got the first two, and recommend them heartily.
