-
- I have not come to a final decision regarding the seminar yet,
- it cost me $69 to regester plus $21 for the gas to drive from
- Raleigh to Greensboro twice. For $91 I can have a new (and
- needed) reel to replace the 521-XLT junk I have on my pitching stick.
-
- On the deficit side:
- I guess I expected more discussion regarding tactics, and
- less discussion about techniques. I feel that, once I get on
- some active fish, catching them is not too difficult.
- I would have liked to hear more about how to find fish
- (i.e. tournament pre-fishing strategies). I guess I should have paid
- more attention to the title of the seminar.
-
- I suppose that people of all backgrounds were there, but it was more
- than a little boring listening about how to rig a carolina-rig,
- a texas-rig, to put the pork-fat-side down on a pig'n'jig and to
- slide 1-inch of plastic worm over the hook shank, spinnerbait
- blade selection etc. etc. etc.
-
- The top pro's (Brauer and VanDam) were a bit more closed mouthed than
- the local or less famous guys (David Fritz,Joe Thomas, Stacey King etc.)
-

-
- Mr. brauer talked for 100-minutes. The first hour or so all he said was
- that we should buy his Denny Brauer signature Daiwa flipping/pitching
- rod, that we should buy and use the rattle-back jig that he designed for
- some other company, that we should get Daiwa model xyz reels for all
- of our rods, that we should use this or that type of DuPont line
- (one of his sponsors). The rest of the time he told humerous
- anecdotes and showed us how to pitch and flip (I wonder why he
- didn't show us how to cast or chew gum?). Late in the second hour
- someone figured out that he wasn't there to talk about how to fish so
- that person asked brauer, "can you say something about how you pattern
- bass or pre-fish?", brauer replied, "you just have to figure some
- things out yourself."
-
- He was a speaker in a seminar, I paid money to have him tell me something
- about fishing, but he wouldn't divulge any information about fishing.
- Is he that insecure about his standing? I'm sure that if he took off
- his cap and parted his hair, there would be a huge crack running laterally
- down his skull, hence the name.
-
- on the asset side:
- The other guys were more forthright. I had the feeling that Joe Thomas,
- and David Fritz were actually trying to help us learn something.
- I felt that they would honestly answer any question.
-
- Kevin VanDam talked about his tournament pre-fishing strategy,
- David Fritz told us something about the seasonal patterns he uses
- which are based upon where the winning tournament fish came from
- duing 10,000 tournaments. Joe Thomas talked about finesse fishing
- which was interesting. Stacey King talked about using heavy weights
- on plastic worms to penetrate cover (something I've never done).
-
- summary;
- I gained alot of respect for these pro's. They are resourceful,
- intelligent, inventive, and hard working. Nature's perfect bass
- catching machines. They have inspired me to try tournament fishing
- again and see how far I can go... I still need a good reel for my
- pitching stick...
-
- After I win the classic will I be a butt head?...
