-
- That's why all of my TV time is spent reading a book or living
- my life rather than getting vicarious thrills watching someone
- else having fun on TV.
-
- Discussions about advertising invariably amount to: "I am a
- self-actualized, free-willed individual who can think for
- himself; isn't it too bad there are so many gullible idiots
- out there who aren't like me and who are taken in by Madison
- Avenue?"
-
- Madison Avenue cannot make anybody do anything. It doesn't
- matter how many ads you've seen for a product (or a candidate
- or an idea) . . . ultimately you are responsible for your
- decision to buy, or buy into, it. Whether or not you believe
- that men are jerks, or that women prefer jerks for SO's, or
- whatever, is YOUR decision, not the fault of advertising --
- nobody forces you to even watch the advertising, nervermind
- believe it. Any beliefe to the contrary, and claim that
- "society made me do it", is just another example of the
- ethos of "victimhood" I complained about here recently.
