  19. -probably have a wider choice of housing, jobs, and opportunities than
  20. -I would if I were black.  It means that I can drive an old, beatup car
  21. -around Palo Alto and not be stopped by police for being suspected of
  22. -being in the neighborhood to commit a crime.  It means that I'm not
  23. -saddled with negative stereotypes about being white.

  25.    Farthing is confusing benefits and a lack of loss.  The things that
  26. he is mentioning are all things that everyone should have in a fair
  27. society, not special privileges that whites have as a RESULT of blacks
  28. being oppressed.  In other words, in a fair socity, everyone should be
  29. able to drive in an old car without being hassled by the police.  So this
  30. is not a special privilege, it is an ordinary right that some blacks,
  31. as a matter of fact do not have.  But that is not a proof that  Farthing
  32. is benefitting from blacks being oppressed.
