- Hi fellow Wodehouseians (Only proposed term so far)
-
- I love Wodehouse for the complex plots (and subplots^n), the incredible endings,
- the characters each with their idiosyncracies, and most of all the beautiful and
- hilarious language.
-
- But in spite of all this, I think that the majority of stories have similar
- themes as well as similar characters. Maybe that is why I like them !
-
- Typical characters : Aunts (either the kind that eat barbed wire (a la Aunt Agatha)
- or the fun kind (Aunt Dahlia)
- I hope I didn't get my aunts mixed up)
- Uncles (Typically strange - Lord Emsworth)
- Protagonists (Usually the Wooster kind
- How exactly would one describe them ?)
- His friends (Romantic, )
-
- The ladies have more varied characters, though.
-
- And then you have Jeeves !
-
-
- Comments ? Flames ?
-
-
- I read a story, Laughing Gas, with an interesting twist to it
- - Our protagonist switches souls with a kid Hollywood star and then we have
- romance, kidnappings, Hollywood actresses and complex plots typical of PGW.
-
- Any other experiments with the metaphysical ?
-
-
- I read 'The Small Bachelor' a long time back and remember the preface mentioning
- that PGW was especially fond of this book. Has anyone else read something
- similar about this or know which was his fondest book ?
-
- I read a lot of PGWs in India. I guess they would be popular in UK and probably
- the US. Where else does Wodehouse attract people (I saw a posting from Sweden) ?
-
-
- Cheers,
-
-
- Alok.
