  37. Agreed...remember too, that Gollum had the ring a good deal longer than
  38. Bilbo, so perhaps the 'mummifying' effect that Andrew suggests may
  39. linger a bit after separation from the ring...also, Gollum was a tough
  40. ol' bugger, made so by centuries of hand to mouth living at the roots
  41. of the Misty Mts...not like Bilbo who was quite content and comfortable
  42. in Bag End.
