  23. Besides, I can't recall Tolkien using the saying in LOTR. The closest
  24. I can recall is Bilbo's poem about Aragorn, which begins "All that is
  25. gold does not glitter", which turns the saying on its head; Bilbo's
  26. line asserts that something valuable may appear plain, whereas the
  27. proverb asserts that something showy may be worthless.
