  21. What most critics mean when they compare a book or set of related books to
  22. Tolkien is that they haven't encountered any other work that they can think of
  23. to compare it to, or that they think the reading public is likely to have
  24. encountered.

  26. I have not read Kay's books--simply for lack of time.  Ditto Eddings.

  28. But one of the things that keeps me from making time is critical comparisons to
  29. _LotR_, because I know that the critics are probably being lazy, or intellectu-
  30. ally dishonest.
