  36. You give three examples, to which I will respond:

  38. * "Lezzo bitch" bashing:  Assault and battery.  If it's a serious beating, it's
  39. attempted murder.  That's good for 20 years or so--regardless of motive.

  41. * Pack-rape example.  Rape is rape.  All rapes are "hate crimes" (Gawd, I hate
  42. that term) anyway.  Each guilty party gets 10 to 20 years in the coop.

  44. * Beaten within an inch of your life just because you are gay?  Again, it's
  45. attempted murder.  And again, it's good for 20 years in the pokey.

  47. Now, these charges *do* address the seriousness of the crime.  If the sentences
  48. given aren't this long (they usually aren't), then the problem we have is the
  49. judicial system not giving out punishment for existing crimes.  Creating a new
  50. class of crimes isn't necessary; properly and equally enforcing the existing
  51. ones is.

  61. People are getting killed just because people want their cars or because
  62. they want the contents of their wallet.  These are all evil motivations, but
  63. what is so damned special about belonging to a "victim class?"

  75. is that they're prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the real crimes
  76. they did commit (rape, murder, assault, and so on).
