  18. Sorry, no, I can't  support this.  This is just like when all those feminist
  19. groups supported Senator Packwood, who virtually confessed to sexual harass-
  20. ment, because he believed the "correct" things about women's issues.

  22. For us to support Zoe Baird would be doing essentially the  same thing.
  23. The situations are  not identical, but they are very similar.  I will not
  24. excuse someone of committing a crime just because I like what she stands for.

  26. Zoe Baird has been nominated to be the nation's chief law enforcer.  How
  27. credible can she be if she knowingly  breaks an immigration law for no
  28. reason.  (As Cokie Roberts said, she could have afforded Mary Poppins.)

  33. I think (as one of Rush's callers theorized) that Clinton -knew- that Baird
  34. would not get confirmed.  He wanted to make a pretense of wanting some
  35. conservatism in the cabinet, so people wouldn't think he was a liberal.  He
  36. never intended for someone like Zoe Baird to be attorney general.  He just
  37. wants you to think he did.  Ingenious little ploy of his.
