- Revision-meister Zappa strikes again! Zappa has just released the last
- album from his catalog on CD (not including "200 Motels" which he doesn't
- own), and it is almost like a completely different record from the vinyl
- version. Not only is it totally re-sequenced, but each track is
- noticably different from the orginal. He also added one new track called
- "Luigi & The Wise Guys." The differences are too numerous to list completely,
- but here are a few:
- o "Cocaine Decisions" has a new instrumental break in the middle.
- o "SEX" has some new lines added.
- o "Stick Together" has new vocal parts, and the lyrics on the
- out-chorus are now completely audible.
- o "Tink Walks Amok" has some added percussion lines.
- Even on the tracks without obvious additions, the mixes all sound quite
- different. The individual voices in the chorus parts are more
- easily distinguished and the instrumental parts are crisper.
-
- The new track is an acapella do-wop song with Roy Estrada doing lead
- Pachuco Falsetto. Roy sings "You're a double-dork butt rash" and other
- similiar lines over the backup singers making a do-wop chorus out of
- "butt rash" and other lines from the song. In other words, it's pure Zappa.
-
- I know there have been a lot of negative reactions in this group about
- Zappa's various re-mixes for his CD releases (especially "We're Only In It
- For The Money"), but I would have to say that this album has been much
- improved by Frank's incessant revisionism. TMFU has always been one of
- my sentimental favorites because it came out about a year after I started
- to get seriously into his music, and was one of the first new Zappa albums
- I ever bought; so I know this album forwards and backwards, and it
- was a real treat to hear it in a new light. Joe Bob says "Check it out."
