- No real good tales, but on the lighter, non-show stopping side, I recall
- seeing one show where a pair of black bikini briefs were thrown on stage
- for the infamous panty-quilt project, which Frank shoved under the
- nose of a couple fo the players and they backed away. Then Steve Vai
- pulled them on over his pants and wore them for the rest of the show.
-
- Another show I went to I ended up at with a German woman in college with
- my sister. She liked Frank, but at one point during the show, I think
- when Frank started soliciting panties, she stood up and started shouting
- "SEXIST PIG!" a half dozen times. Then she sat down and enjoyed the
- rest of the show...
-
- One of my favorite memories is a show in Philly in November 84, and
- at one point I decided to walk down the side aisle so I could get
- a brief closer look at the stage and the players. Right after I walked
- down the aisle Frank came to the center of the stage and did a guitar
- solo that had me laughing because the textures sounded so much like
- Fripp and King Crimson to me. I raved about it to friends at the show
- and they just had a blank stare... "Crimson...?", they didn't hear it
- at all. A year later I found an audience tape of that show and I was
- again convinced of what I heard. About 4 or so years later I bought
- the GUITAR cd box and much to my surprise found that solo from the
- Philly show lifted as a piece on the cd, titled "Republicans". For
- me that clinches it - Republicans, Elephants (republican party mascot),
- Elephant Talk, King Crimson..., not to mention the Belew connection,
- and that Crimson had been touring a few months before.
