  26. This is the problem with Republicans: they're so far right they think
  27. Bush is a moderate. And because of that they think they must have lost
  28. the election because they didn't nominate someone even further to the
  29. right. Well keep on thinking that, and the Democrats will own the White
  30. House for the forseeable future.

  37. A large majority in the U.S. favors abortion rights. It was the
  38. Reagan/Bush/Quayle regime that was out of touch with the American people

  67. What!!??! I defy you to make a case for this. You right-wingers think
  68. you own the foundations of this country, and therefore its founding
  69. principles must be the same as yours. Have you even read the Constitution?
  70. It is mostly a pragmatic document, simply laying out the basis on which
  71. a practical government was organized. It says absolutely nothing about
  72. Judeo-Christian "beliefs". It doesn't even mention religion, execept
  73. in the first Amendment, where "free exercise" of religion (unspecified)
  74. is guaranteed. This nation's founders were not fundamentalist religious
  75. types; they were secular humanists from the Age of Enlightenment tradition,
  76. who believed that government should "promote the general welfare" and
  77. that religion should be kept separate. The authors of the Constitution
  78. would be horrified at the attempts of today's Religious Right to inject
  79. their particular religious beliefs into the politics and laws of this
  80. country.

  88. conscience. Personally, after seeing how leaving the economy to the
  89. businessmen has left the country, I'll choose the Democrats hands-on
  90. method there, and hands-off my morality.

  102. Well, personally I think it's humorous how the right-wingers have condemned
  103. the Clinton administration before he's even been in office. When Reagan
  104. was elected in 1980 I thought it was a black day for the country, that
  105. he couldn't keep his campaign pledges to cut taxes, raise military spending
  106. *and* balance the budget, and that the right-wing would attempt to legislate
  107. their morality on everyone. Turns out I was right, but at least I was
  108. willing to give him a chance to see what he could do. Today you right-wingers
  109. are on the other side: you're out of step with the country and the times,
  110. and you're so rooted in the past that you've closed your mind to even
  111. the possibility of constructive change. Well, keep thinking that way
  112. and you'll be outside looking in for a lot of years to come.
