- In article <1993Jan26.045458.21942@fuug.fi>, an2509@anon.penet.fi would have us believe:
- [] I know it's a really bad idea to send drugs through the US mail, but how
- [] about Federal Express and United Postal Service? I was thinking that if you
- [] send it overnight via FedEx, first it probably doesn't spend enough time in
- [] their posession that it would be economical for them to check it and second,
- [] being a private company, why would they have drug dogs at all (unless they
- [] were required to by law). But I thought I'd ask here because it's better
- [] to be safe than sorry. Any comments would be appreciated.

- I can't speak for FedEx, but as a UPS employee (sorter) I can tell you
- that the amount of checking that occurs, at least for regular ground
- shipments, is absolute zero. Your package goes from the UPS shipper,
- to a UPS hub, onto a truck to another hub, onto the cute little brown
- van from there, and to the addressee's house. We process
- approximately 150,000 pieces of mail each night on my shift alone and
- trust me, the only thing that anybody notices is the address. Unless your
- package has OBVIOUS signs of something illegal (like reeking of skunk bud or
- seeds falling out the cracks) it should encounter no problems. Important
- safety tip, though: Make SURE that it is well packed with NO chance
- of opening even a little bit during shipment. We are required to
- ensure that every package reaches its destination sealed up nice and
- tight and if a package comes through that is torn open even a little
- bit it is sent to the damage clerk who then repackages it (with the
- obvious implications). Note that this process is only for ground
- shipments, I can't speak for the air operations.
