  12. In California, civil forfeiture laws expire at the end of
  13. this year, but State Assembly Bill 53 is a renewal for 4 (?)
  14. more years.

  18. There was an article in the Sac Bee about abuses of these laws,
  19. but Dan Lungren, our state Attorney General, has said that they
  20. are great for the budget problems, and he hopes to bring CA laws
  21. more in line with Federal laws. He was referring to the fact that
  22. in CA, the State has to show your house/car is connected to drug
  23. money before they can take it; according to the article, the
  24. federal laws place the burden on you to prove your property is 
  25. clean.
