-
- First of all, the media does say it, and secondly, I don't believe this
- is accurate. What I heard happened was that he knew his brother was
- using drugs, and he knew the police suspected him, and he let them
- arrest him. Which is different than "turning him in." He really didn't
- have much choice -- if he had interfered and it came out in the papers,
- there would have gone his career.
-
- I think Clinton is less likely to be part of the *utterly* ridiculous
- anti-drug stuff, like prohibitions against medical marijuana.
-
- But I don't think he's going to be legalizing anytime soon. First of
- all, it certainly isn't a high priority for him, and secondly, he
- doesn't want to be "soft on crime."
-
- On the other hand, he *is* good friends with Kurt Schmoke. Hopefully,
- that'll count for something.
-
- At most I could possibly see him shifting money from law enforcement to
- drug rehab programs, a minor positive sign. (Any less money for law
- enforcement is a good sign. Of course, with the Civil Theft, er,
- Forfeiture, it might not matter.
-
- Now that the Court has agreed to take a look at civil forfeiture, maybe
- something good will happen. Nahh. This is the Rehnquist court.
