The Hoar book is the basic John Birch Society conspiracy theory. Western
Islands is the Birch imprint. Hoar is a regular contributor to Birch publications, and having read both the book and his articles, I can give my opinion that
Hoar peddles a standard lunatic conspiracy theory with much assumption and little fact.
George Johnson, a reporter for the New York Times, wrote the book Architects
of Fear while a reporter in Minnesota. I think it is an excellent review of
the most popular conspiracy theories in the modern U.S. (even though I disagree
with his analysis of LaRouche's theories, and even sent him material while he
was writing the book to try to change his mind.)
The Vankin book is a pop-culture ripoff of conspiracy theories from a variety of sources who are interviewed but seldom evaluated. A very dissappointing book given the amount of energy and research obviously spent on writing it. The publisher is tied to
