  26.    For various historical reasons different ethnic groups have
  27.    tended to concentrate in specific career or occupational 
  28.    fields.   One of the fields that Jews may have tended to
  29.    enter in the west is banking and finance.  If so, it would
  30.    not be surprising if we found that a larger percentage of
  31.    illegal acts in banking and finance were conducted by Jews
  32.    than their percentage of the general population.   But so what:
  33.    Italians (at least in this part of the country) have often
  34.    gone into construction.  So it might not be surprising
  35.    if illegal acts associated with the construction industry 
  36.    were over-represented by Italians.  In neither case would
  37.    such findings cast any aspersions on the ethnic group in 
  38.    question; it merely represents the probabilistic outcome
  39.    of the numbers based on whatever historical forces engendered
  40.    certain career choices.

  42.    BTW, I should also point out that so far nobody on the net
  43.    has produced any hard numbers pertaining either to Jews'
  44.    participation in banking, nor to their propensity to 
  45.    produce banking criminals.  In this part of the country
  46.    (Boston area) my casual observations tend to suggest
  47.    that both the bankers, and the banking criminals are 
  48.    WASPy (like me), not surprising when one considers that
  49.    historically in Boston WASPs have dominated the upper
  50.    crust.

  65.    Gritz hardly seems to be "speculating".  If one refers to a 
  66.    "Zionist" conspiracy one seems to have one's theory already
  67.    worked out.

  72.    The Mafia is called "organized crime", instead of merely "crime",
  73.    because it is conspiratorial in nature.   No one denies that 
  74.    the organized crime originally in the form of Sicilian and southern 
  75.    Italian syndicates exist.  Mr. Frank's comments, as far as I
  76.    can see, are in the vein of demanding evidence that there 
  77.    is some equivalent to this among Jews, i.e., a conspiracy
  78.    largely among a group of Jews to run a syndicate of financial
  79.    or banking crime.

  81.    I would add to this the caveat that around here there was,
  82.    when I was growing up, the reprehensible and racist assumption
  83.    that anyone with an Italian last name had connections with 
  84.    organized crime.  I grew up in an Italian neighborhood (we
  85.    bought our house from the Gallerani's, on one side were
  86.    the Balboni's, on the other the Tangerini's, etc, etc) so
  87.    I was very sensitive to this when I was a kid.  But
  88.    likewise there is the racist assumption that Jews have
  89.    connections with "money" or some unique relationship 
  90.    with it.  No one can imagine poor or working class Jews.
