- As someone else who subscribes to the faq-maintainers list has already pointed
- out here, many people on the faq-maintainers list don't *want* it to be
- replaced by a newsgroup, and will continue to use the mailing list rather than
- the newsgroup, even if a newsgroup is created.
-
- If all mailing lists could be replaced by newsgroups, then there would be no
- mailing lists. There are reasons for the use of a mailing list rather than a
- newsgroup, and the people on faq-maintainers appear to think that it qualifies.
-
- As I have pointed out repeatedly when the subject of news.answers.d has come
- up, I see no reason why FAQs can't be discussed in news.misc, and indeed, they
- have been discussed there in the past. Public discussions of FAQs are few and
- far between, and therefore I don't think a separate newsgroup for them is
- necessary.
-
- It takes an impressive amount of hubris to propose to replace a mailing list
- with a newsgroup when the members of that mailing list do not wish it to be
- replaced and have stated so repeatedly. But if you really think it would be
- successful, Jef, sure, what the hell, go ahead and create alt.answers.d. I'm
- certainly not stopping you (as if I could!).
