  23. The 11/19/92 Cornell staff newspaper sheds some light on this:

  25. "Following national trends, Cornell saw an increase in reported cases of sexual
  26. harassment over the past year that university officials ascribe to increased
  27. awareness due to the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings nationally   and
  28. intensified campus efforts to educate and advise people here about sexual
  29. harassment.

  31. Some new trends also emerged, according to a report issued by the
  32. Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO): increases in reporting from
  33. undergraduates and in anonymous sexual harassment; two cases involving
  34. violence and battering beyond anything reported in previous years; new
  35. avenues of high-tech harassment being utilized; parents of students
  36. becoming more active in initiating reports; and cultural differences
  37. increasing as a contributing factor.

  40. via computer in the form of offensive electronic mail messages, screen
  41. savers, computer graphics and sexual sounds being sent to terminals.
