-
- Li's right arm was ressurecting itself; and it was complaining
- every single step of the way. Sudden jolts made it feel like it was on
- fire like the sky.
-
- A 'splat' sounded near by and she threw herself to the side. The
- whole arm felt like it was blowtorched, and she screamed after she hit to
- make the blackness go away. It receeded, but left her whimpering. She
- continued the whimpering after she could hear again, against the pain, and
- two sets of footsteps hesitantly came up towards her.
-
- They led with their guns, so identification was easy. She blasted
- the first as he came around the corner, as he held the gun like it was some
- sorta antenna or something. The second jumped back, Li rolled to the side
- and around the pile of rubble and got him from the back. She walked
- forward and rolled him on his back, the glint of gunmetal as his pistol
- rolled to the side, and then he and his buddy disappeared.
-
- Li was surprised to find that the fall 'cured' her arm and
- shoulder. She had feeling back in it, small patches of needles and pins,
- but, on the whole, it was back.
-
- After two more shootouts, she reached the far end of the block.
- There was one tightly packed group of people in front of the building. She
- realized why they were so tightly packed when six go-gangers whizzed by on
- their motorcycles and laughed as they pulled off and picked off the former
- denizens of the apartment building they torched.
-
- She was too far from them to do anything about it, and had no rifle
- or real long distance weapon. There are, however, only two that have guns
- among the gangers that are messing with this group. She sighed, put a
- fresh cartridge in the one pistol that was left, checked that everything
- was in place; and then waited until one of the piece packing gangers was
- getting closest to her position.
-
- She sprinted full-out, stopped and fired four shots, dropped,
- rolled, found her targets and fired four more times as they closed on her.
- She was lucky and found both of those with the evident firearms and two who
- had been using chain, one of which had been charging her as she fired. She
- tossed the empty pistol and stood there, arms at her sides as the fifth
- charged her swinging something that looked like a weird cross between
- various pole arms. It seemed a spear, but with a wider, flat blade, a bit
- like a naginata but not as heavy. It only took one arm and hand to guide
- and swing it. As it came towards her, ran towards it and leaped into the
- air towards the rider. The blade and haft went under her, and she landed
- behind the bike.
-
- She ran after the motorcycle, which had slowed while the rider
- tried to turn around. She leaped up the back and put one of her knives in
- a kidney. Li pushed him off, grabbed the spear in her still tingling arm
- and yanked the hog around. The last ganger was facing her.
-
- He saluted her with a wave of a similar weapon. Li blinked and
- waved hers back. Then the roar of the open throttle echoed from the nearby
- walls. Carefully, knowing that haste could probably kill her, she tucked
- the pole under her left arm, opened the throttle and popped the clutch with
- her left hand. The bike leaped forward. She managed to hang on. Then,
- while still accelerating, she tried to crouch the spear like a lance
- against her hip on the left side while her right controlled both steering
- and throttle. When she looked up, the point of the other's 'lance' took
- her in the right shoulder. Combined with the shock of meeting his body
- with her lance, it threw her off the bike.
-
- She blacked out when she hit.

-
- Liralen blinked open somewhat bleary eyes. Argent, Jason, Amanda,
- and Ekho were bent over her, looking at her with some concern.
-
- Li swore a blue streak that brought a smile to Argent's face.
- "She's all right, I think." he said in his clear voice.
-
- "Yeah..." Li said, grudgingly. "I was stupid, though, thinking I
- could do that..."
-
- "Yes, you were." said Argent. He ignored Li's sigh and turned to
- the others, "Next?"
