  16. subject... like an inquisition, but you go right the way through what 
  17. you're investigating (from the latin dis, from the greek dia) so it's 
  18. from dis-quaerare - to seek your way right through something. 
  19. If you wish to promulgate the results of such a disquisition, that 
  20. might well be a dissertation.
