- Hmmm... Stud girdles are supposed to keep the rocker studs from flexing
- on high-RPM, high-lift, mega-valvespring engines, or at least thats my
- understanding. However, we're using one on our project truck for the
- same reason as your brother, to keep the rockers from backing off.
- Personally, I don't see how the rocker could have backed off (only happened
- once) unless A) the person who adjusted the valves didn't tighten then
- setscrew enough, or B) the vibration from our slightly misaligned (off
- center) 11-inch diameter by 2 inch wide aluminum supercharger drive pulley
- shook it loose. But just in case we put stud girdles on anyway (and
- axed the monster pulley in the process of dumping the roots type blower
- in favor of a Vortec).
- Also, I've never seen a stud girdle with set screws... ours is two
- pieces of aluminum that are held together by large bolts.
