  18. Actually, they are tripod-mounted, or at least they have a stick
  19. to support the weight. The ammo looked like 1/2 inch steel bolts.
  20. As weapons, I believe they were originally used to pick off sentries
  21. from the walls of besieged castles, from well beyond normal arrow
  22. range. Sorry, I really don't know any more.
