Hello all,
I recently purchased a 55gal marine tank to supplement my 20L (or should
it be the other way around?). Anyway, previously, the 20L had the following
residents, in order of addition to the tank:
2 hermit crabs
1 Cocoa damsel -- from cycle
1 Dominoe damsel -- from cycle
1 Oscillaris (sp?) clown
1 Picasso triggerfish
2 anenomes
When I got the 55gal, I removed the anenomes from the 20L (the picasso had
gotten stung pretty bad once, but survived. I didn't want to risk him). I took
the two damsels and crabs out and put them in the 55gal for the cycle. I then
added a coral beauty to the 20L. That's when all Hell broke loose!
Before, the dominoe chased the cocoa, but otherwise the tank was VERY
peaceful. The trigger was added last, which I think had a little to do with it.
When I added the coral beauty, which is about the same size as the trigger right
now, the trigger didn't like it at all. After a few days, things cooled down and
there were no more fin-fights. During all this, the clown just stayed out of the
way, and nobody bothered him.
At present, nobody gets along. The clown has been chasing the coral beauty
and the trigger (amusing, since the clown is by FAR much smaller than either), and
the trigger and beauty have been at each other quite a few times. No damaged fins
or broken bodies so far, though.
What I would like to know is if anyone has had asimilar experience with this
behavior, or if anyone knows what may have caused the sudden change in attitudes? Was I suppsed to know that adding the beauty would set off Tank War I? Could the trigger
be feeling "jealousy" (he gets upset if I feed the beauty or clown first)? I have
noticed that if I just drop flakes in the tank, not near anyone, the trigger shreds it
but doesn't let anyone else eat it. What makes me mad is that he doesn't eat it
