- OK, at the suggestion or urging of Ronda and the rest of you
- on the net, I sent the following letters today to my two
- Senators and my representative in the house.
-
- May I suggest you do the same, or something similar?
- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
-
- The Honorable Senator Carol Mosley-Braun
- United State Senate
- Washington, DC 20510
-
- Dear Senator:
-
- Computers are very much in use today and growing common. Within
- this community there is growing concern or interest in access to
- information and ideas from the Federal Government, and from our
- elected government officials. I've enclosed a copy of an article
- that appeared recently. I obtained this copy electronically. I
- wouldn't have come across this information if it wasn't for
- electronic access.
-
- The purpose of this letter is to encourage you to become a part
- of this growing community, to support access to information and
- ideas via the electronic Internet - a collection of computers
- world-wide.
-
- Specifically, I would suggest you do two things: Support both
- ISIS and LEGIS (as described in the enclosed article) and support
- legislation similar to what Vice-President Gore sponsored last
- term, S-2813. Secondly, I would encourage you to establish an
- electronic mail account so that you can communicate with us about
- issues, and that we can communicate with you. I've written
- (electronically) to Doreen Albistron, who is either the
- electronic postmaster or associated with your system. Her name
- and address is dalbistro@hr.house.gov. Most likely there is an
- equivalent person of the US Senate as well.
-
- If you are not experienced, comfortable, or knowledgeable about
- computer communications, I realize that this seem intimidating,
- even radical! May I make the following offer:
-
- If you, or members of your staff, are in the Chicago area I would
- be willing to introduce or train you or your staff in this area.
- I'm not a 'computer expert' (whatever that means) but just a
- system user. I'm an older person, still learning, and currently
- going to school and have an account on Illinois Educational
- Computing Network, at Northeastern Illinois University. I also
- operate a dial-in "Bulletin Board" system for public access for
- my local labor union, IBEW Local 1220.
-
- I have no idea of your computer literacy. If you are already
- familiar with this communication, then you don't need me. If you
- already have an email account, you can reply to this at my
- address: urkastig@uxa.ecn.bgu.edu. If you don't have an account,
- establish one!
-
-
- Yours Very Truly,
-
-
-
- Bob Kastigar
