  15. OK, at the suggestion or urging of Ronda and the rest of you
  16. on the net, I sent the following letters today to my two
  17. Senators and my representative in the house.

  26. Dear Senator:

  28. Computers are very much in use today and growing common.  Within
  29. this community there is growing concern or interest in access to
  30. information and ideas from the Federal Government, and from our
  31. elected government officials.  I've enclosed a copy of an article
  32. that appeared recently.  I obtained this copy electronically.  I
  33. wouldn't have come across this information if it wasn't for
  34. electronic access.

  36. The purpose of this letter is to encourage you to become a part
  37. of this growing community, to support access to information and
  38. ideas via the electronic Internet - a collection of computers
  39. world-wide.
  40.  
  41. Specifically, I would suggest you do two things:  Support both
  42. ISIS and LEGIS (as described in the enclosed article) and support
  43. legislation similar to what Vice-President Gore sponsored last
  44. term, S-2813.  Secondly, I would encourage you to establish an
  45. electronic mail account so that you can communicate with us about
  46. issues, and that we can communicate with you.  I've written
  47. (electronically) to Doreen Albistron, who is either the
  48. electronic postmaster or associated with your system.  Her name
  49. and address is dalbistro@hr.house.gov.  Most likely there is an
  50. equivalent person of the US Senate as well.

  52. If you are not experienced, comfortable, or knowledgeable about
  53. computer communications, I realize that this seem intimidating,
  54. even radical!  May I make the following offer:

  56. If you, or members of your staff, are in the Chicago area I would
  57. be willing to introduce or train you or your staff in this area. 
  58. I'm not a 'computer expert' (whatever that means) but just a
  59. system user.  I'm an older person, still learning, and currently
  60. going to school and have an account on Illinois Educational
  61. Computing Network, at Northeastern Illinois University.  I also
  62. operate a dial-in "Bulletin Board" system for public access for
  63. my local labor union, IBEW Local 1220.

  65. I have no idea of your computer literacy.  If you are already
  66. familiar with this communication, then you don't need me.  If you
  67. already have an email account, you can reply to this at my

  69. establish one!
