  16. I see no objection to misc.activism.progressive in its present form as
  17. a moderated compendium of leftist propaganda.  The original proposal
  18. was to call it misc.activism, and I objected to that on the grounds
  19. that it misleadingly suggested that all activism was of their sort.  I
  20. think I was one of the people who suggested that if they would add
  21. .progressive to the title, it would no longer mislead any but the most
  22. naive.  It is not a discussion group, since almost no responses, even
  23. leftist responses, are posted.  Let it be.  There is no lack of
  24. opportunity to post criticisms of articles in
  25. misc.activism.progressive, e.g. in this group.  By the way,
  26. misc.activism.progressive has occasionally accepted postings from me
  27. of articles complaining about the lack of human rights in Cuba.

  29. However, I would like to see a newsgroup of a different persuasion.
  30. Conservatives and moderates have made far less use than the left of
  31. Usenet.  I have undertaken to post the articles from each issue of
  32. _Measure_, a monthly newletter of University Centers for Rational
  33. Alternatives (UCRA).  UCRA was founded by the philosopher Sidney Hook,
  34. an anti-Stalinist and democratic leftist, who was shocked by the
  35. anti-democratic, intolerant and anti-American developments in 1960s
  36. leftism and its efforts to suppress opposing views in the universities.
  37. UCRA still has its work cut out for it.  For now I post the articles
  38. in alt.activism.d.

  40. More material can be obtained, and I would welcome volunteers to
  41. help find it and post it.
