  21. (1)"Disruptiveness" was not cited as the reason for no longer
  22. including MIM's posts in misc.activism.progressive -- the the item
  23. just posted including the Amnesty International report, with the
  24. explanatory paragraphs at the top, for yet anothe restating of our
  25. reasoning. A careful reading of these also addresses the so-called
  26. "power-exercise" charges.

  28. (2)re-reading the original documents reaveals also that we
  29. "dogmatically" asserted "that MIM will never come up with something"
  30. worth posting to MAP; in fact, what we wrote that since virtually all
  31. of MIM's writings were of the cheerleading-for-Sendero variety, we
  32. suspect this much, and I wrote, on the contrary, that it could *not*
  33. be ruled out of the realm of possibilities that MIM might write
  34. something reasonable [ditto that the sun might not come up tomorrow],
  35. although adding that that would be a rather radical departure from
  36. their present norm.

  38. I might add that if they write a good "progressive" piece and continue
  39. to be cheerleaders for systematic murder elsewhere, theirs will still
  40. not be articles worthy of placement in misc.activism.progressive --
  41. for preciesely the same reasons that a State Department report, *even
  42. if* it was, in this instance, verifiably correct, condeming some
  43. Official Enemy [e.g. Iraq] for its human rights abuses, would
  44. similarly not belong in misc.activism.progressive, the State
  45. Department being an *apologist* for those crimes that suit it just
  46. fine, thank you.

  48. (3)Finally if you read what I wrote you will note that by all means we
  49. encourage "discussion ABOUT" [see "Reply to MIM"] Sendero, just not
  50. apologetic cheer-leading for SL -- a difference glossed over by
  51. comments that people are "quite interested in reading up on the
  52. Maoists" -- and similarly we defend the right of cheerleaders for SL
  53. to post to the *public forums* just as we do the right or advocates of
  54. the KKK, LaRouche, and others we disagree with; and their right to
  55. form a moderated misc.maoist-gonzalo-thought newsgroup if they so
  56. desire.

  82. I just wanted to add my two cents to what's been going on between harelb
  83. and company and the evil Maooids.  It never particularly seemed to me that
  84. the MIMers were particularly disruptive to the process of MAP/ACTIV-L

  86. carrying out its daily business, nor is a little disruption
  87. necessarily a bad thing.  For my part, I see this ban as claiming a
  88. victory you haven't earned, and qualifying your move in a pretty
  89. backhanded manner when it appears to be nothing more than a simple
  90. power exercise to make a "closed game".

  98. "terrorists" (a contention that I think deserves more discussion, not

  102. stifle this kind of debate.  I think it shows a pretty obvious lack of
  103. principle in the matter.

  105. Anyway, as my contribution, I just wanted to note that leftists here on
  106. MAP/ACTIV-L and alt.activism, as well as alt.society.revolution and 
  107. alt.society.anarchy, appear to be quite interested in reading up on the

  109. Maoists. (Those groups, along with alt.zines, are the only ones I advertise
  110. the ftp site "red.css.itd.umich.edu" on.)

  112. They appear, in fact, to be interested in reading up on whatever
  113. controversial material they can get their hands on.  Maybe that's because
  114. the usual reformist drivel is starting to taste like a political diet
  115. more akin to Ultra-SlimFast.  There are other explanations as well, but
  116. that's what I've caught from the comments that I've received about these
  117. materials.

  119. Anyway, here are the top archive access areas for the last eleven days
  120. or so for the anonymous ftp site, red.css.itd.umich.edu (141.211.182.91).
  121. The Maoist stuff is certainly no more heavily advertised than anything
  122. else, and they rank somewhere around half-way in terms of how much 
  123. quantity of material of theirs I have available for downloading.
