- This didn't seem to get through the first time so here it is again..
- Hello,
-
- I need some help with my PDP-11/34a. I am trying to hook up the
- M7856 card which the serial port/real time clock card. But I don't know
- what the jumper settings on it should be. My system behaves fine until I
- plug it into any Unibus slot (Yes, I plug it into the most foreward
- position in the machine). After I put it in and turn my machine on,
- the RUN lamp comes on and stays on. When I press HALT or LAD or
- anything else, the BUS ERROR lamp comes on and the RUN lamp goes off.
- If I remove the card and restart the system, the system works fine,
- what's wrong!?
- I know that the M7856 requires the bus grant jumper on the backplace,
- as would an open space. So that shouldn't be the problem. Is it possible
- that the real time clock is screwing it up? I vaguely remember that if
- you only have more than one M7856 in the machine, only one clock should
- be enabled. However, this is the only one in my machine. In fact, the
- only things in my machine are the two processor boards, the RAM board,
- the console board, the bus terminator, and bus grant cards. Is it
- possible that the memory address on the M7856 is coliding with one of
- those?
- Lastly, I really need to know the DIP settings for the board.
- I want to set it up as 9600B, No Parity, 8 Data, 1 Stop, and how to
- set the address of the card. Should it be at a specific address or
- merely an unused one?
- Any help with be very greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
