- A local hospital is looking to expand by building a small campus-like
- facility in the burbs. They want to network the new buildings with their
- current HIS (AS/400) system and also be able to interface some new OpenVMS
- systems (hopefully running Multinet), PCs, Macs, RS/6000s and some
- special-purpose radiology equipment. My first inclination is for them to
- put in a couple of Cisco routers connected via a leased line. The problem
- is that we don't know hospital equipment or typical applications and they
- don't know computer networking. Is there anyone out there that has
- expertise in network integration in a hospital environment? They need help
- on EVERYTHING from routers to physical cabling. Their current equipment
- and networking expertise is limited to two disconnected IBM token ring
- networks and a bunch of 5520 terminals to an AS/400. We have a pretty good
- grasp on networking PCs, Macs, UN*X and VMS but my background is somewhat
- lacking in AS/400 (not entirely accidentally) and when you start talking
- special purpose Ethernet protocols for CAT scanners my eyes start to roll
- back into my head. Anyone willing to be a contact for these poor souls?
- Anyone done this? Horror stories? Please include your mailing address and
- phone number as the hospital is not on the Internet.
-
- Thanks in advance for any leads!
