- In article <roh.5@stud.hsn.no> roh@stud.hsn.no (ROBERT HAUG) writes:
- >I am a student of economics from Norway. One of my optional subjects is
- >philosophy. I've recently got a problem where I'm supposed to discuss any
- >possible similarities between the 'natural state', as several
- >philosophers (e.g. Machiavelli, Locke, Rousseau) describes it, and a 'pure

- If you are looking for a top-notch secondary work on these authors, and
- on political philosophy in general, you may want to check out
- _History of Political Philosophy_ (3rd Ed, U of Chicago Press), edited by
- the late Leo Strauss.
-
- In each chapter a specialist considers a major political philosopher,
- from Plato to Heidegger, in twenty-five to sixty pages. A set of
- recommended readings is included at the end of every chapter, so it is
- very useful for both review and for planning your study of new authors.
