- When people have a choice they migrate from places with low standards
- of living to places with higher standards of living. To put one
- issue sharply, how would you like to be a parent in a society in
- which about half of the children born died of diarrhea before reaching
- five. When I was about 15 my mother told me that she considered it
- a real triumph that both my brother and I were still alive. Actually
- in my generation, death of children was rare, but in her generation,
- it was still common.
