- the voices scream at a constant drone, arguing about life and death
- and growing old. the woman, dressed in a macrame hat, attacks the man
- with dry, colorless words. replying, the man shouts point and
- counterpoint with careful inflection. he is wearing a cambric shirt.
- their argument continues, rising and falling with the moon.
-
- near the window, a young girl sits. her sunflower eyes gaze upon the
- sky, and her hands trace an orchestra in the air. after the day ends,
- her eyes close. she dreams of silent melodies, crashing waves, and
- dripping faucets.
-
- the man and the woman progress little in their debate. small errors in
- protocol rise up to impede their journey. they get trapped into
- discussing the weather until the night fades away.
-
- a young woman reclines in an old rocking chair, hands at her side and
- face down. her dress, once starched, has wilted to a yellowed beauty.
- twitching its tail, a small squirrel perches at the windowsill. it
- berates the sleeping figures until it grows bored. the young woman
- looks up to see it dash up a pole and across a wire, scaring doves
- from their rest. her expression turns from startled to sublime.
-
- she is a young girl again with eyes that catch the sun. the boy next
- door waits for her. in his hands are a bright red ball, three
- feathers, and an olive branch.
