  22. There is scope for quite an interesting novel on this theme, a bit like

  24. here...' novels.  (Rule 1 of the Net: any sequence of follow-ups will

  27. At first, the Tourist Board (the Danish Tourist Board, of course) would
  28. market the place with a slogan like: VISIT THE SHETLAND ISLES ... 
  29. THEY'VE GOT "DANISH" WRITTEN ALL OVER THEM.

  32. a bacon factory and lots of moo-cows; crofters' wives eating Danish
  33. pastries while their sons play with Lego on the traffic-free streets and
  34. their daughters pose for pornographic pictures; and a train ferry to the
  35. Scottish mainland.

  37. Meanwhile the Danish Kroner would collapse because the sum we originally
  38. paid for the Shetlands, plus compound interest, would probably be
  39. greater than the sum of all the money in the European Community.

  41. Nobody can pronounce the Danish language, but that doesn't matter
  42. because the Shetlanders can't pronounce English anyway, they just sort
  43. of go `oo, oo' into their beards -- even the women.  The Danish language
  44. would probably inherit all 167 of the Shetland words for `wool'.
